Brief History About Akosombo

Akosombo is a town in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It is located on the banks of the Volta River, where the Akosombo Dam was built. The dam was completed in 1965 and created Lake Volta, the largest man-made lake in the world by surface area.

The town of Akosombo was founded in the early 1960s to house the workers who were building the dam. The dam was built by the Volta River Authority (VRA), a government-owned corporation. The VRA also operates the dam and generates electricity from it.

Akosombo is a popular tourist destination. The dam and Lake Volta are popular attractions, and there are also several historical sites in the town. The town is also home to several traditional villages, where visitors can learn about Ghanaian culture.
